Shay and Andy pointed me to the new ‚track all‘ feature of coComment, which allows tracking comments of non coComment users (or the ones who forgot to login). In an effort to keep my WordPress plugin up to date, I made a few changes to the plugin to support the new feature.
A beta version is now available, which supports these new features:
- general options of the plugin allow to choose from disabling coComment, use the plugin’s own toggle button or use the new coComment ‚Enable‘ button and the new ‚track all‘ feature
- you can set if a new post should by default support ‚track all‘ or not
- the ‚track all‘ comments feature can be switched on or off on a per post basis
Still to do is the translation of the new strings (only for administration) to german and french.
Download the new version from the coComment Enhancer page. Feel free to give it a try and please let me know about bugs you may encounter.
Great job with the plugin Andare. Was contemplating writing one, but now I don’t need to.
Have you read the comments I posted here regarding the trackall feature, as well as Mocha’s reply to them?
Great work again David!
We will investigate to find why the coComment integration you have here + the firefox extension don’t work together. The strange thing is that this is not the case on our blog http://www.cocomment/teamblog and I don’t see the difference so far. But we will find it!
Thanks Nicolas for your support.
It’s interesting though, that everything seems to play nicely together once cocomment has been activated with the bookmarklet…
Yes, I have the feeling that there are two similar calls to our script (1 via the ffox extension, the other via the blog integration) resulting in disabling coComment like if your were clicking twice on the bookmarklet. This explains why when you click on th bookmarklet (in fact a 3rd call!) it enables coCo again. Hum…
I’m assuming you’re running your wordpress plugin here, right? Then what exactly is it that doesn’t work. It seems to work for me. How do I reproduce the problem?
The problem is that for users that have the cocomment Firefox extension installed, calling up this page, which is refering the new enabler.js from cocomment, don’t see the comment form as being cocomment enabled.
I also have the problem when my firefox plugin is enabled. I have to click on the bklet to enable coCo.
Chris, do you have also the coComment plugin turned on?
Do you have coCo turned on when you enter the page?
Ok, now It’s not working for me either… I’m looking in to it…
Ok, David, does it work if you do not set cocomment_force to false? You don’t need to do that when you trackAllComments.

@Chris, this seems to do the trick, although the cocomment login popup is displayed in this case, triggered by the Firefox extension – but that is its purpose, isn’t it?
I’m uploading a new version of the plugin to the download page.
If the user has the extension installed, yes. Otherwise, an enable button should be displayed that would give users an indicator that their comments are tracked using coComment and gives them the *option* of registering or login in.
Version 1.2.1b is uploaded and active on this blog.
Please let me know about your experiences.
I just installed version 1.2.1b, but i cant see any difference. If i disable the FF plugin it work as it should. But with the enabled FF plugin coComment is disabled. Have a look at my blog, hopefully you can reproduce this behavior. I can even reporduce it here in this blog.
Btw, disabling the WP-Plugin (via Options – coComment Enhancer) does also not work for me. If i update the settings like that it just „jumps“ back to the former position (enhanced)…
Good morning,
for info my status here: It still have to click on the bookmarklet to enable coCo…
Ok, let’s see again whether it is now working for everybody. I hope I fixed it.
Chris
Hello,
we just released a new version of our script called by the extension and the blog integartion plugin.
Now it works fine for me with both the firefox and you wordpress plugin at the same time.
for you?
@BloggingTom: thanks for the hint, bug is corrected in v1.2.2b
@Nicolas: seems to be working ok for me as well, what about others?
Does work for me too now! Great! Thanks for your effort.
It doesn’t work for my blog. There is nothing different, no toggle icon, no coComment option and tag box. But after post, the comment shows it recognizes my coComment id and E-mail.
BTW, for testing your wordpress plugin, I removed the integeted script and turned off Firefox extension. Do I have to add it to comments.php?
http://jude.visioncatch.com
@xorms: no there’s no need to change anything in the comment template, the plugin inserts all the necessary scripts into the appropriate places.
Please check the following:
Furthermore, what to you mean by ‚removed the integrated script‘?
I’v deactivated all plugins except coComment Enhancer, it seems the HTML source isn’t inserted properly. No cocoment.js or enabler.js or anything else in the HTML source~ :S
hehe, It meas I removed the example script for wordpress mentioned in http://www.cocomment.com/integrate
😛
@xorms: can’t figure out what the problem is on your blog 🙁
The plugin makes use of the action ‚comment_form‘. Please check in the file comments.php in the theme directory you’re using if you can find the line
do_action('comment_form', $post->ID);. This is required otherwise no plugin modifying the comment form could possibly work. That‘ it. There is no „do_action(‚comment_form‘, $post->ID);“ in comments.php. Thanks~
Another question: if I choose „Enable“ and also check the box which is under „Enhanced“, will coComment Enhancer track all comments?
Hi, I’m hoping you can help. I’ve removed the Firefox extension, the plugin is installed and when I look at the HTML source code on any post page of my blog, I see that the coComment code has been inserted – but comments are not going to coComments. I’ve checked comments.php and it does include the do_action… line referenced above. I’ve set the plugin to not show the toggle, to send all comments to coComment… Any ideas? I was using the bookmarklet when I first started using coComment, then tried the ‚official‘ code from the coComment site which worked fine in FF but made IE either freeze or crash. I took it out, reinserted it and then it worked – as before – in FF but in IE instead of crashing the browser it showed a toggle which couldn’t be clicked to login or do anything.
I was kind of hoping the enhancer plugin would work as it’s my last resort before I have to give up on coComments as simply too flaky and potentially off-putting to my site visitors which is a real shame as it’s a great idea and, when working, I can make good use of what it offers.
Please take a look if you can, see if you can figure it out? Many thanks.
I don’t know much at all about coding so excuse if I’m showing ignorance here, but in the stuff the plugin inserts into the source code, it has ‚var commentButtonName = „submit“ but my comment form button for submitting comments is labelled ‚post‘ not ’submit‘. Does this have any relevance? If it does, how can I make necessary changes?
I posted this before the previous comment but for some reason it didn’t appear (although it went through to coComment just fine). I did a refresh, no sign, so if it does turn out that this appears twice, please forgive… Here goes, second try…

There is a little bug in the javascript code your plugin provides coComment.
You should change:
. "var blogURL = \""; echo get_option('siturl');to
. "var blogURL = \""; echo get_option('home');Siteurl is where the wordpress files live — in my case, http://climbtothestars.org/wp/ — whereas „home“ is the real address of the blog: http://climbtothestars.org.
It would be really neat if you could make this little change, because as is, your plugin is providing wrong information to coComment for any wordpress blog which has not got the blog and the files in the same directory.
Thanks in advance!
Another bug, in the CSS this time. Line 70 of the widget part of the plugin widget_irgShowCoComments.php and line 259 of irgShowCoComments.php
margin-botttom: 8px;
should have only two t’s!
I’m sorry, my last comment here was for the Show coComments plugin, not yours. The first comment is still valid, though.
It appears the javascript error I pointed to was our mistake (the snippet provided on our integration page). We’re updating that page right now.
Thanks for you input Stephanie, I’m fixing it. Will let you know when it’s ready.
